Our Vision, Mission and History

Our Vision

We will become known within our geographic region as one of the most reputable providers of strategic planning, marketing integration, and training services to entrepreneurs, small business enterprises, professionals, consultants, and retired individuals seeking to profit from their intellectual capital or to relocate, expand or launch new businesses in the Albuquerque Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Our Mission

Through the integration of people, resources, information technology, and business systems, we will develop strategic solutions that can be implemented just-in-time, within budget resulting in a successful outcome.

Our History

As 1986 opened our founder, Barb Tomlin, a veteran in traditional marketing arenas, was managing a computer superstore in Downtown Albuquerque. That store was one of 63 in a national chain owned by Bell Atlantic Corporation. In February 1986 Bell Atlantic announced it was pulling out of the computer market. However, in recognition of the notable accomplishments Barb had made through managing the Albuquerque store, Bell Atlantic board members asked her to meet with them directly to discuss other opportunities in working with the company. She was asked to become their national sales training director but after careful consideration, she opted to resign, start her own company and take them on as her first strategic consulting client instead.

We first opened our doors for business in March 1986 as a proprietorship under the DBA of Computer-Aided Sales Help. During our first five years in business we focused on working with high-technology companies having or seeking a presence in the online world of that time. In 1991 we changed our business name to Westward Connections to reflect our activities in connecting people representing businesses east of the Mississippi to those westward, all the way to the coasts of California, Oregon and Washington.

In 1992 we were awarded our first contracts for online work. We were privileged to work with Prodigy, CompuServe, and AOL, the largest proprietary networks of the '90s for several years. In 1994 we started introducing our clients to the benefits of working online with us. We were privileged to lead our local market place in the revolution commercializing the Internet, producing the first commercial web sites for the local CBS television affiliate KRQE, the Albuquerque Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. We developed over 100 web sites before the end of 2002 when we returned our concentration to strategic consulting and intellectual property development projects.

Primarily for the record keeping convenience of our larger clients, in 1996 we reorganized and registered Westward Connections as a New Mexico corporation.

After losing so many of our long-time east coast clients as result of 9/11 we decided to focus on helping enterprises closer to home. We continue to support relationships with clients beyond the borders of New Mexico and will always be interested in making new friends and alliances throughout the world. Thank you for your interest and patronage.

Westward Connections is headquartered in Albuquerque, the largest city in New Mexico. It is where Bill Gates started his business and where some of America’s leading high technology enterprises have chosen to place significant operations.
