Publications by Barb Tomlin

Barb has been writing since childhood. It was not until after turning 40 that she began to take herself seriously as a writer. By that time she had already written and published three books for the arts and crafts market (none of which are in print today).

Today, Barb's greatest passion as a writer is producing online content. Her work continues to be published in mainstream print, however, most often under psuedo names or as a ghost writer for other well-known experts in the small business / SOHO arena. Yes, Virginia, things are never quite what they seem in the real world, either.

  • Angels Flying Close To The Ground With Money For YOU!
This was originally published for Your Own Business on the Prodigy Network in 1991. Barb continues to update resources and other information so it continues to be one of the most read pages on our site. If you are thinking about starting your own business and/or find yourself short on ideas of how to fund it, you need to read this article.
  • Attitude Influences Success
This was originally published for the Entrepreneur's Exchange on the Prodigy Network in 1993. Barb also updates resources information so it continues to be one of the most read pages on our site.
  • First Steps in Website Development
This is one of the popular checklists Barb came up with in 1995. Since then, she has written several white papers (most reaching book length at this point) on a variety of subjects relating to web site development, promotion and maintenance.
  • Why Go Online For Business?
Pre-qualify yourself before taking the big step. In 1995 most businesses were wondering about the answer to this question, whereas today, the necessity of having an online presence is almost a no-brainer.
  • Building Your Online Business (BYOB) (Work in Progress)
A virtual publication, this white paper is quickly growing into an electronic book. It is filled with street-smart facts you can apply to your web development project, whether your publication be for business or pleasure.
  • Steps to Successful Web Promotion (Work in Progress)
Another virtual publication, this is actually part of the Westward Connections Web Promotion Center, an entire section of our site devoted to the topic of web site promotion.
  • Cybersmart Publicity (Work in Progress)
Yet another virtual publication, much of this material was taken from a booklet Barb wrote on publicity for the Arts and Crafts market in 70's and expanded on during her work for the Prodigy Network. That information has been or is being revised and new information pertinent to publicity in cyberspace has been added. One of the most important and popular pages are in Chapter 4. They are the distribution list for news releases and Where to Find Media Contacts. This publication is especially helpful for the do-it-yourselfers.
