Answers to Christmas Legends

 

1. There were 12 days of Christmas (of course), from December 24, to January 6.
2. The Three Magi (the wise men)
3. Sir Henry Cole sent the first cards, in 1843
4. St. Francis of Assisi is believed to have created the first Nativity.
5. It is a Roman custom; misteltoe was a symbol of peace.
6. Joseph Mohr wrote the words to "Stille Nacht" (Silent Night); Franz Gruber, was later given credit for composing the music. A little extra trivia: The little parish church was called "The St. Nicholas' Church of Oberndorf.
7. Nast was an artist for "Harper's Weekly", who drew the first picture of Santa Claus, based on Clement Moores description in " 'Twas the Night Before Christmas
8. He was the Bishop of Myra
9. The "Finnish" dwelling place of Father Christmas.
10. Italy has the tradition of Old Belfana... a female gift-giver.
