About Our Web Presence

Welcome to the new and improved web site for Westward Connections. We are revitalizing our web presence with a new look and structure in an effort to help you find what you need much faster. Here are some tips to make your experience in navigating this web a little easier and hopefully more enjoyable. First and foremost, if you get lost, be sure to check our Site Map. Second, you should know that more often than not another browser window will be launched when you select hyperlinks external to our site. It's a good idea to monitor the number of browser windows you have open by periodically checking at the bottom of your computer screen. (Multiple browser windows open simultaneously will use more of your computer memory; we recommend setting your software for a maximum of 3 at one time).

Tips For Enjoyable Page Viewing

In an effort to make visiting our site an enjoyable experience for the broadest audience, we continue to publish to HTML 4 standards, which are easiest and more convenient to experience with the latest versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape. We also use Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to control the appearance of our web site content. By using CSS, we are able to deliver a consistent look and feel and faster page load times. Older browser versions will display our pages but some of the page formatting will not be accurately displayed. Because the vast majority of our web site visitors are using a version of Microsoft Internet Explorer, we no longer design or test for Netscape compatiblity. For your best page viewing experience, please use the latest version of Internet Explorer.

You will need special browser utilities to view certain content on our site. For your convenience we have placed links to the vendors who provide the latest free versions of any viewers required. You will need Adobe Acrobat to view the PDF documents as well as FlipViewer, Real Player and Macromedia Flash player to view some of the video and audio content found on this web site.

For the most enjoyable experience of this web, we also recommend using a 32-bit computer system with a color monitor displaying no less than 256 colors, allowing the color preferences we have selected to override your defaults. The majority of our pages are designed to be viewed in a 800x600 16 bit color format. We also suggest selecting Trebuchet MS type for your browser font set. All of our web pages will scale to any screen size; however, a 640x480 screen format may produce less than desireable results.

Finding Specific Information

Using Our Site Navigation System

The primary navigation for our web site appears at the top of each page on our site. Using that navigation system will get you to the major sections within our web publication. Once you are within a specific section, you will find a sectional navigation system on the left side of every page. The sectional navigation system will direct you to pages that directly relate to the area you’re browsing. We are using Javascript components to create and manage our navigational system. Should the navigational components not show up in your browser, please check your browser security settings to be sure you have enabled Javascript viewing.

Site Map

To view the organization of our web site at a glance, visit the Site Map. You can navigate directly from the map to other sections of the site. This is a fast way to get to information about funds if you know the name of the fund.

Creating Reliable Bookmarks

Web database HTML publishing technology is used to develop and manage our web publications. As such, many of the page URL addresses are dynamic. To be sure you can always find your way back to your favorite area, bookmark our site map.

Your Rights and Responsibilities

Browsing our web, posting in our discussion areas, using our site content and subscribing to our web hosting or Internet access services carries certain rights and responsibilities. You have the right to roam about our web freely so long as you do not infringe upon our rights or the rights of others who come here. The best way to avoid any misunderstandings is to take a few minutes to read our Terms of Service as well as our Copyrights & Disclaimers.

How long has Westward Connections been on the Web?

We published the first home page for Westward Connections in 1994. It consisted of five HTML documents which were hosted in a UNIX/Apache server environment. We registered and launched westward.com as the domain for our corporate web site in 1995. The first edition under our own domain name consisted of 15 HTML documents. The site was hosted in a Windows NT/WebSite Pro server environment. From 1997 through 2001 our corporate site was hosted in a UNIX/Apache server environment. In 2002 we switched to a LINUX/Apache server.
